Great basic machine

Review Date: February 26, 2010
Reviewer: C. Henry,
I'm very happy with my new Singer. I've been looking for a machine that will last me a long time, can do all the basic stuff, and isn't expensive. This machine is the one. I was considering buying a machine that also did embroidery, but I realized that I didn't really need that, and the warranty is longer on all manual machines. (25 years!) The machine has 25 stiches, half of which are stretch stiches, but I think that's enough for most projects. The automatic needle threader is a bit tricky, but it's not hard to do it yourself anyway, so I don't mind. I also appreciate that the machine has a light over the sewing area...a very nice added feature!
If you are new to sewing, the machine comes with a dvd detailing how to thread the machine, which I think is the hardest part about machine sewing. If you do not thread the machine properly, you get bunched up extra thread. Once you have the machine threaded properly, it was very easy to sew! I recommend practicing with different stitches at first to see what the proper tension/length levels are for the different stitches.
